Parenting time recommendations to be updated

Published in 1999 and updated in 2001, the Parental Guide to Making Child-Focused Parenting Time Decisions has been a part of the parenting time landscape in Minnesota for almost 20 years. The guide makes recommendations for overnight parenting time with a child’s age and developmental needs in mind. The guidelines have, at times, been used to limit overnight parenting time with the non-custodial parent, particularly for the youngest children. Although these guidelines are not part of the parenting time statutes in Minnesota, they are often relied upon to make important parenting time decisions by judges, custody evaluators, and other professionals involved in creating parenting time schedules. This year, a long awaited update to these recommendations is in the final phase of edits.
